Conservancy :: Birds at Monarch Grove Sanctuary
Even when the monarchs aren't overwintering at the
Monarch Grove Sanctuary, there is plenty of wildlife to enjoy --
including Western
Gray
Squirrel,
Black-tailed
Deer,
raccoon,
and
Virginia
Opossum.
You will also find a wide variety of bird species enjoying the habitat, which falls somewhere between montane and coastal forest ecoregions or zones. Some of the avifauna resides here year-round, while others arrive as wintering flocks. One birder, A.H. Miller, identified 85 species in the area, including a rare (in Central California) Tennessee Warbler wintering in the Eucalyptus in 1988.
